Shrnutí:Gestational trophoblastic disease is one of the 15 main causes of maternal death in Ecuador according to the last INEC census. Its incidence is 3 to 5 cases per 1000 pregnancies, which makes it a frequent pathology in Ecuador. It is therefore vitally important to carry out a timely diagnosis and to identify risk factors. Molar pregnancy brings with it a range of complications including: Thyrotoxicosis which is a rare pathology, but can become difficult to a thyroid crisis or thyroid storm being a potentially fatal complication. In certain cases it is required the application of pharmacological treatment with tionamides: propylthiouracil and methimazole that are the most used, also an invasive treatment can be chosen as it is the case of the plasmapheresis with fresh frozen plasma or human albumin, it is indicated in patients who require an emergency surgical evacuation by active vaginal bleeding and the antithyroid therapy has not had enough time to be effective.
