description This document details the production costs of the pitahaya (Hylocereus undatus) crop in the province of Los Ríos. The pitahaya is a fruit that is produced in the Amazon Region as the main production area, which has had significant growth associated with the use of the soil, climate and costs that make it an exportable option. The production of pitahaya in our country is very small, the cultivation of this fruit serves to complement the economy of the producers during the time in which the cycle products (mostly grains) are in the development stage. The realization of this project on the production costs of the pitahaya crop, is carried out with the need to provide farmers and entrepreneurs with a guide to the problems they face with non-traditional crops due to the lack of knowledge about the production costs and productivity in the cultivation of this fruit. This has led to the lack of study work for the production and development of pitahaya, which, however, has influenced the low levels of yield and quality. Therefore, with this research, we seek to provide complete and updated information that serves as support material and incentive for the creation of innovative ideas, which increases productivity, marketing and use of such an exquisite fruit as the pitahaya; being in turn a product of great importance.

La pitahaya es una fruta que se produce en la Región Amazónica como principal área de producción, que ha tenido un crecimiento importante asociado al aprovechamiento del suelo, clima y costos que hacen de la misma una opción exportable. La producción de pitahaya en nuestro país es muy reducida, el cultivo de este fruto sirve para complementar la economía de los productores durante el tiempo en que los productos de ciclo (en su mayoría granos) están en etapa de desarrollo. La realización de este proyecto sobre los costos de producción del cultivo de pitahaya, se realiza con la necesidad de brindar a los agricultores y empresarios una guía ante los problemas que enfrentan con los cultivos no tradicionales por la falta de conocimiento sobre los costos de producción y productividad en el cultivo de esta fruta. Esto ha llevado a que no se realicen labores de estudio para la producción y desarrollo de la pitahaya, lo que necesariamente ha influido en los bajos niveles de rendimiento y calidad.
