Resumo:The livelihoods on the San Mateo beach belonging to the city of Manta with which the community sustains itself day by day were analyzed. To do this, using the snowball methodology for non-probabilistic analysis, 80 household surveys were conducted that are generally engaged in fishing, providing restaurant services, and renting tents on the beach. The results showed that the households that provide food service in the cabins have more monthly income than those that are dedicated to fishing and renting tents on the beach. The busiest days are from Friday to Sunday. People who have fishing as their livelihood, spend 22 days on the high seas and sell the fish directly at the pier. The people who are dedicated to the restaurant service in the cabins and those who rent tents belong to an association called "Arca de Noe" in force for 9 years, which regulates the prices of their services only. There is no sustainability practice applied to each of its tasks, which shows a notable lack of knowledge, with this it has been possible to conclude that there is an absence of intervention by the public entity, the Municipal GAD and the private entity, projects or associations that are in charge managing training, especially in environmental sustainability. Some strategies focused on improving the living conditions of households in San Mateo were proposed, enhancing existing resources, focusing on the viability of sustainable tourism.
