| الملخص: | The present research on genetic improvement by gamma radiations in rice varieties was held in the grounds of the farm "San Pablo" belonging to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. Babahoyo Technical University , located at km 7 satellite Babahoyo - Montalvo , in order to a) evaluate the effects of gamma radiation on the agronomic characteristics `Iniap 17' and `S - FL - 09' varieties; and , b ) identify the most appropriate dose to produce desirable mutants, with lower plant height and vegetative cycle. Seeds of rice varieties Iniap ` 17 ' and ` S - FL - 09' were irradiated with doses of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 kRads. 50 g of dry seeds were irradiated for each dose on the Atomic Energy Commission. The irradiated seeds were sown in the nursery and after 20 days were transplanted to the final at the distance of 0.30 mx 0.30 m between plants and between rows respectively place, placing a plant site.
