Shrnutí:Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the staple foods for Ecuadorian families. As a crop it is frequently attacked by many pests and diseases. Among the most frequent diseases, grain staining is mentioned, which can cause up to 40% damage to the production. It is important that rice genetic improvement programs identify new genotypes with low diseases incidence. The objectives of this research were: through the literature review, to know about the pathogens that cause rice grain staining and to determine the incidence of staining in paddy rice of forty F7 promising lines, derived from the interspecific crossing of Oryza rugipogon G x Oryza sativa L. ssp. japonica, using as controls the commercial varieties INIAP-FL-1480-Cristalino, SFL-011 (FLAR), INIAP-FL-Arenillas. The results obtained for grain staining (%), lines 22. PUYON / JP002 P8-30-P55-2 (F7), 14. PUYON / JP002 P8-20-P1-6 (F7), 36. PUYON / JP002 P8-29-P8-5 (F7), 32. PUYON / JP002 P8-31-P63-5 (F7) and 20. PUYON / JP002 P8-31-P45-28 (F7), showed the lowest percentages (6.4 to 9.64%). The incidence of grain staining, line 28 PUYON / JP002 P8-32-P8-16 (F7), was susceptible (S), compared to the remaining lines that were presented as moderately resistant (MR), Regarding the results obtained from vain grains (%), it was observed that lines 3. PUYON / JP002 P8-30-P84-19 (F7), 14. PUYON / JP002 P8-20-P1-6 (F7), 35. PUYON / JP002 P8-29-P8-16 (F7) and 5. PUYON / JP002 P8-30-P60-25 (F7), showet the lowest percentages with 6.90; 7.03; 7.75; 8.05. Based on the obtained results in this study, it is advisable to carry out trials in different rice-producing areas, with the lines observed as moderately resistant (MR) to grain staining, which presented the lowest incidence percentage.
