Shrnutí:This case study addresses automatic thoughts and their impact on post-traumatic stress symptoms in an adult female higher education tertiary student. When talking about automatic thoughts, reference is made to certain cognitions that are generated in the psyche involuntarily, these are fleeting or as images, and in accordance with the threat or traumatic event, automatic thoughts when activated significantly disturb the emotions. People with post-traumatic stress disorder. Some of the symptoms of the aforementioned disorder are: Insomnia, nightmares, irritability, Flashbacks or flashbacks, tension, anxiety, fear and worry, among others. Symptoms appear after experiencing a significant traumatic situation, such as sexual abuse, rape or witnessing a violent death, etc. This case is about a person who is presumed to have suffered one of the aforementioned traumatic events. To reach the diagnosis, the interview and clinical history and the post-traumatic stress symptoms assessment scale were used, in the therapeutic plan the cognitive restructuring with the application of cognitive behavioral therapy is proposed, through a series of techniques that will allow the modification of thoughts, emotions and behaviors in the patient.
