| Sumari: | The present investigation was carried out with the purpose of determining the environmental and cultural factors that prevail in gastrointestinal diseases in children from 3 to 5 years in the Puertas Negras sector of Babahoyo - Los Ríos, October 2018- April 2019. to 96 mothers of children between 3 and 5 years old with a history of gastrointestinal diseases in the Puertas Negras sector. The results show that the most frequent gastrointestinal diseases in children aged 3 to 5 years in the study area are parasitosis (43.75%), rotavirus diarrhea (35.42%) and gastroenteritis (16.67%). The main factors that affect the appearance of gastrointestinal diseases in the area of study are the consumption of tap water (71.88%), little habit in washing hands (80.21%), ignorance of manipulation and preservation food (77.08%), in addition to the fact that most people only wash their hands with water (58.33%), adding to this the existence of stagnation of waters that are a source of inoculum of pathogens that cause this type of disease (51.04%). The health circuit uses immunization campaigns, educational talks and preventive campaigns to prevent and promote health in the sector, evidencing a great acceptance of 92.71% of mothers to attend training for the prevention of gastrointestinal diseases. The distribution of informative materials on the prevention measures of gastrointestinal diseases would greatly help a decrease in the incidence of this type of diseases in the study area, since there is a large percentage of respondents who are unaware of such prevention measures |
