| Sammanfattning: | Introduction: 80% of cases of pneumonia associated with health care occurs in patients with artificial airway, is called ventilator-associated pneumonia (NAVM). Objective: Establish the existing relationship between risk factors and NAVM in patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), IESS Babahoyo, in the period from October 2018 to April 2019. Methodology: Qualitative-quantitative, field, descriptive and cross-sectional study. The universe consisted of 73 patients who were coupled to mechanical ventilation. An intentional non-probabilistic sampling was carried out (45). Results: The frequency of patients with NAVM was identified (64.4%). From 71 to 80 years was the most representative (31.1%). The male sex predominated (68.9%). Patients older than 60 years with endotracheal catheter (46.70%) prevailed. The co-morbidities that stood out were chronic renal failure and EPOC. In 31.1% of the cases, pulmonary rehabilitation techniques were not used. Gram negative microorganisms prevailed. There was a deficit in oral hygiene and in the mobilization of patients to avoid permanent supine decubitus. Conclusions: The frequency of patients admitted with NAVM was identified (64.4%). The most frequent risk factors were the endotracheal catheter (46.70%) and the simultaneous co-morbidity (26.70%). A predominance of Gram-negative bacteria was found. The relationship between the diagnosis of said pathology and the presence of chronic diseases was described, highlighting chronic renal failure and EPOC as having the greatest impact, occupying 50% of the frequency of cases. |
