La neumonía adquirida en la comunidad es una enfermedad que se la caracteriza por ser una infección aguda de las vías respiratorias bajas afectando esencialmente a los alveolos, los cuales sufren anomalías como la acumulación de secreciones, es una de las patologías más fáciles de diagnosticar por medio de exámenes radiológicos debido a la opacidad que se evidencia. La importancia de realizar un cuidado sobre esta patología se basa desde el método de diagnóstico hasta el tratamiento que se va a aplica lo cual es fundamental en la intervención que realiza el profesional de terapia respiratoria para que el paciente supere esta patología, se debe manejar de la manera más adecuada y ofrecer alternativas teniendo en cuenta la oxigenación del paciente, garantizando una vía aérea permeable.
