Summary:Flavonoids extracted from agro-industrial waste of citrus peels have gained interest due to their great potential and application in various industries. These have bioactive compounds present with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. The most efficient methods vary depending on the type of citrus and the specific flavonoid to be extracted. For orange hesperidin, extraction with ethanol is efficient (0.5-1.5%), for lemon naringin, extraction with ultrasound (0.3-0.9%), and for mandarin hesperidin, supercritical extraction (0 .8-1.2%). Although extraction with supercritical fluids showed the highest yields, it involves greater investment and higher operating costs. From a cost point of view, the most convenient method would be solvent extraction using ethanol or methanol as the conventional method. Furthermore, it is indicated that these flavonoids have various applications in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, providing health benefits and opportunities for the development of innovative products
