Factores de riesgo que influyen en la depresión postparto en madres adolescentes del Hospital Martín Icaza Cantón Babahoyo, período mayo - agosto 2024.

This research project focuses on determining in detail the risk factors that significantly influence the appearance and evolution of postpartum depression in adolescent mothers hospitalized at the Martín Icaza Hospital, Babahoyo canton in the period May-August 2024. Postpartum depression is a serious mental health condition that can have adverse consequences for both mother and baby, negatively affecting family dynamics and child upbringing. The general objective of this research is to determine the risk factors that influence postpartum depression in adolescent mothers. Risk factors related to postpartum depression are associated with socioeconomic, psychosocial, sociodemographic, and obstetric problems. The methodology of this research is mixed: it combines quantitative and qualitative methods. In the quantitative part, standardized questionnaires will evaluate depressive symptoms. At the same time, in the qualitative phase, in-depth interviews will be conducted with adolescent mothers who have experienced postpartum depression. “With the results of this research project, it is expected to provide valuable information that will help to understand better the risk factors that contribute to the appearance of postpartum depression in adolescent mothers. This will allow for the development of more effective interventions tailored to the particular needs of this age group, in order to improve the mental health of mothers and the well-being of their children.”
