Čoahkkáigeassu:Sarcoptic mange, caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei, is a globally distributed parasitic dermatosis that affects several mammals, including dogs and humans. This study aims to determine the prevalence of S. scabiei in canines with dermatitis in the Ventanas Canton, Ecuador, and identify the associated risk factors. A total of 70 dogs with clinical signs of dermatitis were examined using deep skin scrapings for mite identification under a microscope. Data analysis includes evaluating prevalence rates and exploring correlations with variables such as race, age, and sex. Understanding the epidemiology of Sarcoptes scabiei in this region is crucial to develop effective prevention and control strategies, benefiting both animal health and public health. Of the 70 dogs tested, 4 of them were found to be positive for the Sarcoptes scabiei mite. The results showed that 4 dogs (6%) tested positive for the mite, while 66 dogs (94%) tested negative. This analysis reflects a low prevalence of Sarcoptes scabiei in the canine population studied.
