The main objective of the research is to know how gestational diabetes influences in the SDRN of the neonates belonging to NICU of the IESS hospital Babahoyo Los Ríos during the period September 2017 to February 2018. A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out to identify the environmental determinants associated with the syndrome of respiratory distress of the newborn for the collection of information were conducted surveys and interviews directed to both mothers in gestation and health staff of the General Hospital of the IESS, as an instrument was prepared a questionnaire for obtain the information to delimit the objective of the investigation, our population was 41 and the sample was 37 pregnant mothers who developed gestational diabetes in the period from September 2017 to February 2018, which were chosen using the inclusion, exclusion and exit criteria. With this research it was possible to determine that the greater the lack of education and being a descendant of diabetic relatives and the fact that performing poor prenatal checkups increases the possibility of developing gestational diabetes and its complications at birth, such as macrosomía and respiratory distress syndrome.
