Sumario:A 6-year-old male patient who lives in Quevedo was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus type 1 (DM1) 5 years ago with no family history of this pathology. He was referred to nutrition due to an elevation of glucose before snack time, being his first consultation with a nutritionist. A nutritional assessment is made to the patient and it is determined with the growth curves that his weight is ideal for his age, the height is a little high for his age and the body mass index (BMI) is low for his age. On the other hand, the biochemical or laboratory tests show anemia which is normally caused by chronic diseases such as DM1, in terms of diet the patient consumes excess carbohydrates and vegetables at a very low rate, he does not have any type of food intolerances or allergies. The diet plan will be a hypo hydrocarbon diet which is based on improving the quality of carbohydrates with the 5 daily meal times.
