Gaia:The flower industry in Ecuador stands out worldwide for its leadership in the export of roses, with this crop being one of the country's economic pillars. The study addresses in detail the integrated management of the thrips F. occidentalis in rose cultivation, a pest that represents a significant challenge for the long-term sustainability of this industry. The symptoms and damage caused were thoroughly investigated to develop personalized and effective control strategies that combine various measures, such as the use of traps for monitoring, reduction of insecticides, and control strategies adapted to each situation, including chemical, biological, cultural, and physical approaches, with the aim of minimizing the environmental impact of insecticides and promoting competitiveness. The exceptional quality of Ecuadorian roses has positioned the country as a reliable and high-demand supplier in demanding markets such as the United States, Europe, and Russia; however, effective management of F. occidentalis trip is crucial to preserving the aesthetics and productivity of crops, improving the profitability of producers, and guaranteeing the sustainability of the industry. The importance of implementing sustainable agronomic practices that protect both local communities and the economy of the sector is emphasized, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach that combines different integrated pest management strategies. This study highlights the importance of adopting a multifaceted approach to guarantee quality and sustainability in floral production, reaffirming the country's commitment as a benchmark in the export of high-quality flowers.
