Resumo:Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy with high blood pressure, edema, protein in the urine (proteinuria), and excessive weight gain; may precede before eclampsia. The association between maternal age and adverse pregnancy outcomes has been widely studied. Several possible explanations included: the aging process of blood vessels, arterial stiffness, impaired maternal hemodynamic adaptation, lower egg quality, obesity, unhealthy lifestyles, and comorbid disease. Although many studies have been conducted on the effect of advanced maternal age on pregnancy outcomes, the evidence on outcomes in a specific group of patients with preeclampsia is still less. Aim: Determine how risk factors are related to the development of preeclampsia in pregnant women aged 25 to 35 years treated at the Martin Icaza Hospital, Babahoyo, period June - October 2023. Methodology: It is a descriptive, documentary, and quantitative study. Conclusion: The incidence of preeclampsia found in pregnant women between 25 and 35 years old who attend the Martín Icaza Hospital during the period from June to October 2023 was 78%. Among the main risk factors found are maternal family history of preeclampsia and high blood pressure, overweight and obesity, and consumption of harmful substances.
