Governments and international organizations play a vital role in the creation of regulatory frameworks to promote sustainability and protect tourist destinations. The lack of adequate supervision of these mechanisms can cause problems that negatively affect social, economic and tourism, especially in communities that depend on tourism, such as some in the provinces of Los Ríos in Ecuador. Despite the significant growth of tourism in Ecuador, challenges such as informality, labor exploitation, unfair competition and environmental impacts require effective control and supervision mechanisms to ensure compliance with standards and the protection of all those involved.
