| Samenvatting: | Introduction: Research delves into a frequent ophthalmologic pathology: eye pterygium, overgrowth fibrovascular, triangular and horizontal, of the bulbar conjunctiva on the cornea. Unipolar or bipolar (affects the temporal part and the nasal), more frequent this latest, unilateral or bilateral. Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with the occurrence of eye pterygium in people aged 20 to 60 from the El Palmar site, Canton Babahoyo, Los Ríos province during the first half of 2017, in order to prevent the development of this disease. Methodology: we conducted a descriptive, experimental, field, and cross, study with quali-quantitative approach. The sample was intentional non-probability of 45 people, by sampling. Applied techniques of scientific observation, informal interviews and surveys for collecting information. Results: of the total of people included in the range between 20 and 60 years of age, 45 were affected with pterygium (24.6%). The distribution by biological sex of persons affected with pterygium was 36 males and 9 females (20% and 80%) respectively. According to age groups, showed a predominance of adults ages 36 to 60 years for a 75.5%. In the 93.3% of persons with this pathology, it showed that they were working in agriculture. In adults, the 67.7% not used. Conclusions: the risk factors related to the occurrence of the pterygium were: everyday agricultural work, daily exposure to sunlight, dust and the effects of the intense heat. |
