Izvleček:SUMMARY A trial was held at the Finca "La envidia" located 30 km route to Babahoyo - Mata de cacao - San Jose del tambo farm with UTM coordinates North 672,342.61 longitude, latitude south 9,788,083.92, north 672,258.70 longitude, latitude south 9,788,029.53, which aimed to 1) to determine the effect of boron applied to soil and foliage, in the production of cocoa pods, 2) to establish the most appropriate treatment to maximize flowering and production of cocoa, 3) economic analysis of the treatments in production cocoa and boron were studied applications to soil and foliage variety CCN-51 cocoa (Theobroma cacao) in the area of Mata de cacao. Foliar applications were carried out by spraying the foliage of the product (Solubor) in two doses of 1 and 2 kg, and in month 2 applications with an interval of 15 days, the applications were made in summer with a 50% flower, edaphic applications contemplated 1 product (Borax phenthahidratado) in three doses and one application to the ground during the test that was performed at the beginning of flowering. The effect of the application on the quantity and maintenance of flowers and aborted flowers was analyzed, the number of flowers held in the whole plant and number of flowers the total falls, no statistical difference between treatments was found, no effects were observed foliar treatments on the content of boron foliar analysis. In middle or high doses presented statistically higher boron content in the floral tissue. In the interplay of boron applied to the soil and the foliage also gave an increase in performance or in the evaluated parameters, which produced no significant statistical difference. In the economic analysis it shows that treatment 1 kg / ha of borax pentahydrate with 2 kg / ha of solubor generated greater monetary value. It was recommended that similar work in different seasons, using different products based on more soluble boron or chelated and try different hours of application of boron either in the early morning and in the late afternoon.
