Riesgos asociados al uso de medicina tradicional ancestral durante el trabajo de parto en pacientes indigenas atendidas en el Hospital Alfredo Noboa octubre 2024 - mayo 2025.

The research project aims to analyze the risks associated with the use of traditional ancestral medicine during labor in Indigenous patients treated at the Alfredo Noboa Montenegro Hospital. The methodology is based on a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective, deductive, and non-experimental approach. The study variables were traditional ancestral medicine and labor as independent variables, and risks as dependent variables. The population consisted of 80 Indigenous women, of which only 77 Indigenous patients treated at the Alfredo Noboa Montenegro Hospital were included. Of these, 60 patients used traditional ancestral medicine during labor, while the remaining 17 patients did not use this practice. The instrument used was a structured questionnaire composed of 10 closed questions. The results were processed using frequency tables, percentages, and the chi-square test for comparison. It was found that a large proportion of those who used these practices faced maternal complications; however, the problems were even more frequent among those who did not use them. Importantly, more than fifty percent of patients found these methods very helpful, which demonstrates a difference between what they believe and the actual medical results.
