| Summary: | Respiratory distress syndrome is an acute respiratory condition that almost exclusively affects preterm infants. Symptoms begin shortly after birth, with respiratory distress due to impaired mechanical lung function and secondary cyanosis due to gas exchange abnormalities. The respiratory distress that characterizes it progresses during the first hours of life, reaching its maximum intensity at 24-48 hours of life and, in uncomplicated cases, it begins to improve after the third day of life. The present clinical case was carried out in a male neonate with a diagnosis of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in the Neonatology area of the Alfredo Noboa Montenegro Hospital in the city of Guaranda, being one of the most frequent complications that develop in said health establishment, The main objective is to apply the nursing care process in neonates diagnosed with Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Through the functional patterns established by Marjorie Gordon, the newborn was carefully assessed, thus identifying the altered patterns in which it will allow us to carry out a nursing care plan to provide efficient care to the patient during the hospital stay. |
