The methodology consisted of a non-experimental design, quantitative approach, field, documentary and descriptive research, the survey technique and two questionnaires that were addressed to 16 media outlets and 15 female journalists. The results were that: only half of the media have an exclusive sports space, in which they include women. The means to consider that the reasons that largely justify the absence of women journalists in sports spaces are gender discrimination, experience and lack of specialization. The majority of female journalists believe that women and men do not have the same job opportunities in sports media spaces. In conclusion, the insertion of women in sports spaces has been a fundamental advance for gender equality in the world of sports. The media still has limitations in including women in sports spaces because only half have been equal. |

The media still has limitations in including women in sports spaces because only half have been equal.El presente caso de estudio se basó en el estudio de los medios de comunicación de la ciudad de Babahoyo, con el objetivo de analizar la presencia de mujeres en espacios deportivos, en el año 2022. La metodología consistió en un diseño no experimental, enfoque cuantitativo, investigación de campo, documental y descriptiva, la técnica de encuesta y dos cuestionarios que estuvieron dirigidos a 16 medios de comunicación y 15 periodistas mujeres. Los resultados fueron que: solo la mitad de los medios cuentan con un espacio deportivo exclusivo, en los cuales incluye mujeres. Los medios de consideran que los motivos que justifican en mayor medida la ausencia de mujeres periodistas en espacios deportivos son la discriminación de género, experiencia y falta de especialización. La mayoría de periodistas mujeres creen que las mujeres y hombres no tienen las mismas oportunidades laborales en espacios deportivos de medios de comunicación. Como conclusiones, la inserción de mujeres en espacios deportivos ha sido un avance fundamental para la igualdad de género en el mundo del deporte.
