Resumo:In the present investigation, a case study involving a child of divorced parents was presented. A presumptive diagnosis of anxiety disorder caused by being separated from parents was obtained as a presumptive diagnosis according to the criteria CI10 Negative Defiant Disorder (313.81). The main objective of this study was to identify how divorce affects the mental health of a 12 year old adolescent from the Duran canton. A psychotherapeutic plan was elaborated with a cognitive-behavioral approach, in which the disruptive behaviors of the adolescent can be modified and how to establish how divorce affects the children, which is manifested in several negative behaviors such as rebelliousness. Symptoms that affect some areas at the emotional, social, family and academic, behavioral level such as aggressiveness, hostility, frustration. In the above mentioned case, it is a matter of applying as much as possible activities that serve to amuse and clear the child's mind, so that he/she can assimilate the complex situation through which your child is going through. It is important to know how to act and provide the necessary support from the family. In some situations, this problem can cause psychological trauma, which requires evaluation by a mental health professional. In this instance, it was possible to get the patient to express his repressed emotions through therapies and techniques used during the interviews that were crucial for the patient to understand his parental bonds and his attachment to family members.
