La neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica es una de las principales causas de muerte en los pacientes ventilados mecánicamente, ya sea por traqueotomía o intubación traqueal, esta complicación se produce porque las secreciones acumuladas en las vías respiratorias no pueden eliminarse por sí solas.
