Summary:Preterm labor is the labor that occurs when the baby is born between 20- and 36-weeks’ gestation, it can be classified as early and late preterm labor; early preterm birth is when the baby is born before 33 weeks, and late preterm birth is when a baby is born between 34 and 36 weeks, the risk of preterm birth for the general population is estimated between 6% and 10% and according to data from the Pan American Health Organization, Ecuador is among the 11 countries with the lowest rates of preterm births in the world with 5.1%; although the rate is low, paradoxically, it is the leading cause of infant mortality in the country. Therefore, the general objective of the research is to determine the relationship between maternal age and the risk of premature birth in pregnant women who attend prenatal care at the By Pass center in Babahoyo from December 2022 to May 2022. 2023. The methodology used is cross-sectional, exploratory, descriptive and field study. It was found that the highest risk rate of preterm delivery was in patients older than 40 years with 22 cases (39%) and 14 cases were in patients younger than 16 years (25%), and according to the main clinical manifestations pelvic pain was present in 53 patients (88%), vaginal bleeding in 5 patients (8%) and nausea in 9 patients (15%).
