Una de las enfermedades pulmonares más comunes que afectan a niños y adultos mayores en todo el mundo es la neumonía bacteriana adquirida. La bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae es la principal responsable de esta patología. La neumonía bacteriana adquirida en la comunidad ha sido considerada un grave problema de salud en nuestro país durante los últimos 5 años, ya que es una de las 3 causas más frecuentes de morbilidad en niños y ancianos, y uno de los principales motivos de visita a las guarderías infantiles. médico y hospitalización en varios hospitales domiciliarios. El paciente, varón de 63 años, presenta diabetes mellitus tipo 2, hipertensión arterial e inmunosupresión, siendo todos factores de riesgo importantes para el desarrollo de dicha enfermedad respiratoria.
