Summary:The present research was carried out with the purpose of identifying the lateral dominance in the development of spatial orientation in the first years of basic education in the educational institutions of the Guangaje parish, as well as its influence in the process of basic notions of 5-year-old children. The problem was generated by the lack of information and application that teachers have about the same to be executed correctly in the improvement of the children's body schema, on the other hand, the active participation of children has been hindered due to the absence of support from the family. In order to carry out this research, a relevant literature and bibliographic review was made within the educational field with the objective of diagnosing the problems of laterality and spatial orientation, through the application of interviews and observation cards, which allowed understanding the definition, characteristics and importance of it at the high school level in educational centers. For the process of this research the qualitative approach was used together with the use of the inductive method that helped to detail in a clear and precise way the characteristics and processes of the improvement of the infant's location, in the same way, with the application of the technique of the interview to the teachers and the observation sheet to the children allowed the collection of information and data, which helped to support the research conducted, for the establishment of the diagnosis of the problem, conclusions and final recommendations, mentioning that most teachers occasionally apply the methodological strategies to determine the lateral dominance. Finally, this research had an educational impact, since the problems of lateralization were identified, considering that at this educational level the basic and necessary knowledge is provided for the initiation of the localization of the body schema, so this depends largely on the intervention of the teacher and the family in the progress of spatial notions in the initial stage.
