| Summary: | The project was carried out in the parish of Joseguango Bajo in the province of Cotopaxi, I order to derive the economic values of bovine milk production, using profit functions, both for medium and small producers, for which, the socialization of the project was carried out to the producers of the area, data collection and records: production costs, milk density, weight of bovines, mastitis test through California Mastitis test (CMT), hence, the parish of Joseguango Bajo has 10 rural neighborhoods, of which it was possible to reach 5 neighborhoods (La Libertad, La Concepción, Agua Clara, El Centro and Quisinche Bajo, El Centro and Quisinche Bajo) with a total of 51 producers, who do not usually keep records, being one of the most important activities in this research, with a total of 253 head of cattle, of which 36% are cows that are producing milk, 27. 3 % heifer, 20.6 % pregnant cows, 7.5 % dry cows, 6.7 % bulls, 0.4 % a bull and 0.4 % a lactating cow, with three production systems, in which 35 producers use the rope system, 14 use the backyard system and 2 use the extensive system. Regarding milk production data, the density of 50% of the cows that are producing has a range of 25.8 to 28.4, providing a good quality of fat in the milk. The results in mastitis reflected that 80.3% do not present such pathology, however 10.7% are positive for subclinical mastitis and 9% present traces, so they have a low number of somatic cells in the CMT test, showing that these producers do not have an adequate biosecurity management, environmental and genetic factors also influence. Regarding the cost-benefit obtained by the sector, it can be noted that the producers do not have a desirable economic revenue, since the high costs of food are not reflected in milk production, for the reason that the sale established by the intermediaries (milkmen) is 0.38 cents per liters of milk delivered. This project is a baseline to take genetic selection criteria, associated to the economic utility of the cattle production systems within the reality of the sector, selecting the bovines with the best performance for its sustainability and livestock sustainability. |
