| Summary: | This research identifies, measures and evaluates the mercaptan and ammonia emissions that workers of Municipal Slaughterhouse of Ambato are exposed, using the methodology proposed by the European National Institute of Safety and Health at Work (INSHT) for its comparison with the maximum limits allowed by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial (ACGIH) and establish relevant exposure doses, designing a prevention program for hazardous substances aimed at improving living conditions of workers in the Municipal Slaughterhouse of Ambato. The validation process used is based on the regulation on sanitation and basic environmental International Standards in the workplace, chapter II which refers to chemical pollutants (ammonia, methyl mercaptan), where it is stated that the temporary permissible limit for the weighted average ambient concentrations of chemical contaminants in these places, measured over a period of 15 minutes continuous within the working day is 20.4 ppm. In the case we analyzed 25 ppm (equivalently 17.5 mg / m3) exceeding the permissible exposure limits. Once the data were obtained we proceeded to design a proposal to develop a prevention program of hazardous substances composed of methyl mercaptan and ammonia to ensure a proper working environment for workers |
