This research reveals the distribution of the genus Lupinus present in the province of Cotopaxi for which an exhaustive digital and physical review of specimens reported in national and international herbaria that have both physical and digital collections and free access as well as they are the case of the following herbaria: Herbarium of the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (QCA), Herbarium Technical University of Cotopaxi (UTCEC) that are located in Ecuador and are legally recognized as Herbariums, while those of digital character were Botanical Garden of Missouri (MO), New York Botanical Garden (NY), Smithsonian Institute (US), Herbarium University of Azuay (HA). This project was carried out with the support of the Herbarium of the Technical University of Cotopaxi (UTCEC) and the Herbarium Missouri Botanical Garden (MO), who provided logistical and financial assistance that allowed the collection of specimens within the areas that are protected by the Ministry of Environment (MAE) as is the case of: Ilinizas Ecological Reserve, El Boliche National Recreation Area, Cotopaxi National Park, Llanganates National Park, in which 30 specimens were collected and taken to UTCEC herbarium facilities for ID. As a result, 5 species of Lupinus (L pubescent, L kunthii, L tauris, L microphyllus, L rupestris) were identified through morphological comparisons obtained from the aforementioned herbaria, these specimens remain in both digital collection (database, images scanned) as a UTCEC physicist. |
