Sumario:Implementing an ergonomic machine exercise prototype for the rehabilitation of the paraplegic and the elderly people patients who are attend at the rehabilitation and physical therapy center at the social protection patronage institution in Latacunga city was the objective of this research; thinking about how to help raise the quality at the physical exercises and of the treatments that they receive. A survey was applied which reflect the physical therapy area needs. A cuanti-qualitative mixed type approach with exploratory and descriptive type; bibliographical and of field methodology were used. According the obtained information concluded that 80 % of the study population comes to the physical rehabilitation almost daily and that 85 % of the same ones hardly ever feels satisfied of the quality that do the oriented exercises, therefore their 90 % tell that they had the exercise need of exercise an ergonomic machine. The final product of this research has been the design and implementation of an ergonomic exercise machine in the rehabilitation center study as a final product and innovative proposal as a solution to the problem. The norms that regulate the ergonomic work risks and its preventive measures were taken into account, based on the legal norm of disability in Ecuador, as well as the norms UNE-EN 547-2: 1997 + a1: 2009; machines safety and measurements of the human body, UNE-EN ISO 12100-1: 2004 + a1: 2010; machines safety, basic concepts and general principles for design, in addition to ISO 26800: 2011. ergonomics - general approach, principles and concepts, which describes the general approach to ergonomics and whose orientations are intended to improve the safety, performance, efficiency, reliability, availability and maintenance of the design result throughout its cycle of life, preserving and favoring the health, well-being and satisfaction of the people involved.
