Gaia:The present research work aims to build a prototype machine for compacting discarded plastic containers, with the only purpose of grouping them to form bales to reduce their volume, facilitate transportation and have a significant amount of storage. For the machine construction, the researchers proceeded to carry out bibliographic research, so, the prototype machine was built through a hydraulic system, and for its structure, it was necessary to use some materials and elements such as square tubes, steel plates, hydraulic pump, hydraulic valves, hydraulic cylinder, pressure hoses, filters, electric motor and a tank for the hydraulic fluid. The electric arc welding method served to join and immobilize the pieces of the structure. The machine model was fabricated with a machine design software that used the simulation system by the finite element method, to choose the ideal materials for the prototype manufacture. The results obtained in this research were as expected, bales were formed with the compacted containers, reducing their volume to facilitate their transportation to the industries where they will suffer other processes. This machine was designed based on the basic models and demonstrated great versatility that can be used in the compaction of plastics as well as paper or cardboard.
