Description
Summary:The present study was carried out with the objective to determine antibiotic resistance of Salmonella spp. from eggs of hens sold in the markets of Latacunga canton. Thirty samples composed of three eggs each were studied, taking into account specific characteristics of each sample, such as homogeneous size and healthy eggs without cracks or openings. The samples were processed using ISO 6579:2002 according method to AOAC, in conjunction with biochemical tests for enterobacteria (Microgen GN ID). The respective results showed that Salmonella spp. presence was not identified in 90 chicken eggs marketed in 2 markets of Latacunga city, presenting other microorganisms belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family, such as: Proteus mirabilis, Morganella morganii, Enterobacter aerogenes, and Escherichia coli, which cause gastrointestinal and systemic diseases. Therefore, it was not possible to demostrate determination to antibiotic resistance of Salmonella spp. genus.
