| Summary: | The main objective of this research study is to analyze the quality and visual fragility of the landscape units (UP) in the El Corazón páramo, located in the Chaupi parish, Mejía Canton, Pichincha Province. To achieve this, a diagnosis of the current situation of the páramo was carried out and the components that make up the landscape units were identified. Then, a conservation proposal was developed based on a descriptive approach, using surveys and field trips to collect data. In addition, ArcGIS software was used to generate cartographic maps of the study area. The pressure state and response (PER) methodology was used to comprehensively analyze the factors that affect the environment, the current state of the páramo and the actions implemented to face the identified challenges. The results reveal that the area presents different human activities, such as high montane evergreen forests (35.50%), agricultural and livestock activities (19.30%), and natural páramo landscapes (45.20%). Six landscape units were identified that include forested areas, advance of the agricultural frontier, livestock, native páramo vegetation, human settlements, and slopes. These results indicate the need for priority conservation in the study area. Based on these findings, it is concluded that it is necessary to carry out the execution of conservation, regeneration and maintenance activities to preserve and protect the El Corazón páramo. |
