| Резюме: | The purpose of this research was to evaluate As removal by vetiver effect (Chrysopogon zizanioides) at Chilla Grande irrigation project, located in the buffer zone of Ilinizas Ecological Reserve. For this purpose, an efficient and low cost alternative for the removal of As was used, the Artificial Floating Island system in combination with the Vetiver species (IFAV), an ecotechnological system to the growing need for processes of decontamination of water bodies, which simultaneously combines economy, aesthetics and efficiency. The research was conducted in two stages; first was adaptation of the species in the soil and water at an altitude of 3190 meters above sea level. In the second stage, two floating islands of 0.80 m2 were installed with 25 vetiver plants each one, in an 1800 L reservoir tank located in the study area at 3700 meters above sea level. For the process, 8 water monitoring (4 initial concentrations and 4 final concentrations) were performed every 40 days for 5 months, 2 samples to determine metals (As and Fe) in sediments precipitated in reservoir tank and in the same way 2 samples of sludge from slopes remnants and finally the analysis of multi-elements (As and Fe) roots was performed. The samples were analyzed in the EPMAPS Water Quality Control Laboratory by removal percentage equation the following As removal results were obtained from 94% to 99% in the body of evaluated water. In addition, As and Fe accumulation was observed in the roots. In conclusion, it was determined that floating islands system with Chrysopogon zizanioides species was an alternative for As removal for capture of Chilla Grande irrigation project. |
