Resumo:The purpose of this research study was to determine a theoretical description about the definition of teaching material and analyze the importance and necessity of its use in the area of Mathematics of Early Education. Teaching material is a fundamental part into the teaching-learning process as is discussed on one hand, in the principles of Montessori method, in which is stated the necessity of preparing the working environment and on the other hand, in Piaget and Vygotsky’s theory in which the child builds his knowledge based on relationships that has with the objects and subjects around him. Through teaching material, the child can compare, differentiate, sort, prioritize, serialize, understand and apply the knowledge in his daily life. In order to do this, a context of study regarding the levels of Early Education and the first level of Basic Education of five educational units in Latacunga Canton was selected. Firstly, the current situation of the institution regarding the object of study was diagnosed through the implementation of two instruments that allowed data collection such as surveys and observing guides. Through them, Teachers’ opinion regarding the acquisition, development and use of teaching materials for teaching Mathematics was gotten. Secondly, an analysis of results identified the main necessities of educational institutions and generally it evidenced the lack of teaching materials for learning Mathematics. In this respect, the implementation of this research project has had a significant reach through a socialization process to teachers about the importance of teaching materials to achieve the objectives in curriculum planning and the use of them. Finally, the child of early education can assimilate the mathematical contents thus contributing to a better learning.
