El canal de riego tiene 36 kilómetros y conduce 4 500 litros por segundo. 17 000 familias lo usan para irrigar 7 500 hectáreas de cultivos de hortalizas y legumbres en Tungurahua y Cotopaxi. Diariamente, 1,8 toneladas de escombros y basura se arrojan al río.
