Streszczenie:The study objective was to analyze the productive potential of non-psychoactive Cannabis (Cannabis sativa) for research purposes for industrialization in Cotopaxi province. For this study development, a bibliographic review on the current state of production and legalization of this species in the world and in Ecuador was carried out, the production perception and interest in on-psychoactive cannabis was determined through a survey by doctors, agronomists, ornamental producers and citizens in general, a spatial analysis was also carried out with the use of a GIS, selecting agro-climatic and edaphic variables to identify the most optimal areas for the cultivation development and the implementation cost of one hectare was determined. About research was found in five continents, out of the 201 countries recognized by the UN, 35 have legal permits for medicinal or industrial cannabis cultivation. This represents 17.4% worldwide. In Ecuador on September 17, 2019 the national assembly approves the reform of the comprehensive organic penal code COIP for the cannabis use for medicinal or therapeutic purposes as well as for industrial hemp. In 2020 the MAG through ministerial agreement number 109 and 141, in the country the highest concentration of licenses is in Pichincha Imbabura Guayas Chimborazo Tungurahua and in Cotopaxi the number of licenses issued is unknown. Regarding the perception and interest in Cannabis in the province of Cotopaxi, 49.74% of respondents related it to medicine, 74.83% indicated the cannabis legalization for medicinal use is positive. 80.09% of flower producers stated that the ornamental infrastructure is adapted for the cultivation of this species and 31.48% and 31% would need specialized training and trained personnel respectively for the production of medicinal and industrial cannabis. Two zones were identified: Panzaleo, Antonio José Olguín (Santa Lucia), Mulalillo, part of Cusubamba, Mulliquindil (Santa Ana) and part of San Miguel in Salcedo Canton, Belisario Quevedo (Guanailin), Eloy Alfaro, San Buenaventura, Ignacio Flores, Juan Montalvo, 11 de noviembre (Insilivi), Poalo, Alaquez, Guaytacama, Joseguango bajo, Tanicuchi, Mulalo and Toacaso in the lower zone, Chantilin, Corazón, Pinllopata, Ramón Campaña, Pangua, Guasaganda (Cab. Guasaganda Centro) and Pucayacu, Chugchilan, Insilivi, Sigchos, Las Pampas and Palo Quemado. From the analysis of the cannabis productive requirements was determined costs implementation of 1 hectare range between 155,541 USD with the seed use and 177,955 USD using plants as plant material of the species. This allows to conclude the Cotopaxi province is an area with high productive potential for non-psychoactive Cannabis.
