| Summary: | The current research takes place in the Estupiñan Institute from Latacunga city, in Cotopaxi province during the period 2012-2013, which is an investigative study of a the development of a physical activity program for old people. This study allows determining that one of the biggest problems, old people face is the sedentary lifestyle. Scientifically the physical inactivity can cause an increase of obesity and can appear different types of diseases such as: cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Therefore, the proposal is applied in a population of 45 old adults with the aim of measuring the benefits of active exercise. In this way, the research benefits the Estupiñán Institute and the community from Cotopaxi Province. According to the objective, a methodological strategy is an initial medical assessment to detect possible muscular problems. Based on this study, it was thought to develop body adaptations, lubrications, stretching, static and dynamic heat tracing, closing with progressive exercises specified through designs of exercises charts according to old people’s needs and those involve an evaluative process of them. As a result, it was achieved the improvement of social functions or the integration of old people through playful and cognitive activities such as the maintenance of a routine exercise, in the physical aspect the motor skills, decrease in heart rate at rest and sub maximal work, decrease blood pressure, improvement of old people’s self-esteem as well as decrease of stress. This research emphasizes that physical activity is one of the basic supports to achieve healthy aging and a long life because of practicing exercise in a regular, active, steady and moderate way. |
