Gaia:The research was aimed to evaluate the hematological and biochemical reference values of the 4M breed as an adaptive response to the edaphoclimatic conditions of the Sierra region of Ecuador. The study was conducted in the genetic nucleus "Yanahurco Grande" of the Cotopaxi province. 60 sheep of the 4M breed (21 males and 39 females) were used, with age range (youth and adults). It was focused on hematological adaptation, on the variables that undergo changes at different altitudes (red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit), hematological variables, leukocyte and biochemical parameters were also evaluated to observe the adaptive response according to sex and age. For the statistical analysis, descriptive statistics were used, for the comparison of data on the age and sex factors, an analysis of variance was used and a Duncan means comparison test was performed. The findings of the hematological parameters of the 4M sheep show a slight increase; What is a consequence of a series of compensatory physiological adaptations that the organism suffers when exposed to different environmental and geographical conditions, there is a notable difference in altitudes in relation to the country from which they originate (Ecuador: 3703 msnm Chile: 180 msnm). 4M sheep showed hematological and leukocyte values within the referential ranges. In the sex factor, there is no statistical difference in the majority of variables, but if there is a numerical difference, as for aspartate aminotransferase, the values showed a significant difference (M 220.10±29.01b U / L), and (H 163.26±5.48ª U / L). In the age factor, the mean corpuscular volume values in adults (28.50 ± 2.33b fl) and youth (41.15±4.92b fl). The behavior of the hematological and biochemical parameters of the 4M breed demonstrates the good adaptability to the edaphoclimatic conditions of the Sierra region of Ecuador.
