| Итог: | The present research work aims to characterize the spatio-temporal distribution of arsenic (As) in the micro-basin of the Blanco River, Toacaso parish -Saquisilí, Cotopaxi province, period 2022. In the micro-basin, morphometric characterization was carried out through the transcendental use of surface, relief and drainage network variables. In the biophysical characterization of the area, climate, precipitation, slope, geology and water use were considered. The spatial distribution of the As was evaluated at 7 points located on the path of the Talahuachana stream and Blanco River the temporal distribution for the period April-August 2022 was also analyzed. Likewise, the level of exposure of the recipient population was determined by calculating the Average Lifetime Daily Dose (ALDD). The results show that the micro-basin is of volcanic origin, elongated and with two periods of rain, the first peak of rain goes from February to May and the second from October to December. The micro-basin has a strongly rugged slope (20 – 35%), with a moderate drainage density. The concentration of As in the 7 points exceeds the Maximum Permissible Limits (PML) recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Ecuadorian environmental legislation (BOOK VI Annex 1 – TULSMA) The highest concentration is at an altitude of 3745 m.a.s.l., and the lowest concentration in the area of Cuicuno south of Toacaso. At the temporary level, the month with the highest concentration was July, referring to the dry season, however, every month exceeds the LMP (dry and rainy season). These high concentrations are due to their geological origin, from the lithological point of view and geographical position, which entails presenting a natural contamination "precursor and predominant" of this metalloid in the surface tributaries of the localities surrounding the Ilinizas. On the other hand, when evaluating 'exposure doses', values lower than the limit value suggested (<1) by the US Environmental Protection Agency were estimated. For the assessment of cancer risk by oral exposure presented a high risk level (E-4) in the first two points and medium risk (E-5) in the subsequent sampling areas. Therefore, it is concluded that the high concentrations of As in the micro-basin limit the desirable use of the water resource, as they are not suitable for consumption and agricultural or irrigation use. |
