Riassunto:In the protective forest of the Ilitio Rescue Center, which belongs to the parish of Mulaló, in the canton of Latacunga, there is no information on the population density of Lycalopex culpaeus; however, threats to this species have been reported such as: indiscriminate hunting, carrion poisoning, presence of feral dogs as direct competitors in the anthropic chains. Therefore, the objective of the present research was to determine the relative population density of the Andean fox and to identify indirect traces within the fixed band transects. The indirect observation method was used in this study to record the Andean fox, based on traces such as footprints, feces, shelters, and fur, for which transects were delimited with the Gaia GPS application, which facilitated the observation and recording of data in this area. A relative estimate of the Andean fox population in this forest was obtained, yielding a value of approximately 0.0008 individuals per square meter. Based on the results, a relatively low population density was obtained within the protective forest of the Ilitio Rescue Center.
