要約:In the parish of Belisario Quevedo, Potrerillo neighborhood, Latacunga Canton, Cotopaxi Province, the effect of supplementation with mineral blocks on the productivity of heifers fed with natural fodder was evaluated. Forty mestizo heifers were divided into 4 groups of 10 animals each, being T1 control with a block without minerals, T2, T3, T4 with 20, 40 and 60 grams successively. The starting point was the elaboration of the conformation of the mineral block, productive parameters and determination of the mineral extraction that exists in the pasture that the animals consume, with a completely randomized design in the Infostat system, it is established that the most effective treatment of the research was observed in T4 (Treatment 4, mineral salt at 60%) since it obtained a weight gain of 29,8 kg, its feed consumption of 5,72 kg and the feed conversion of 5.36. With respect to the results obtained, mineral blocks are an effective alternative in the feeding of cattle (heifers) due to their energetic, protein and mineral contribution of high quality, which helps to cover the nutritional requirements and quickly improves the productive processes, thus properly fulfilling the optimal physiological functions for an adequate weight gain. The ease of its preparation, the possibility of using local raw materials and the versatility of its handling, has a positive impact as a strategy in livestock farming.
