| Yhteenveto: | The characterization of the creole donkeys constitutes a fundamental tool to establish a conservation program and the sustainable use of their populations. The objective of the research was to determine the main characteristics of the tenure system, morphometry, hematological and biochemical reference values from Ecuadorian Creole donkeys. The study was conducted in the Tungurahua province in Mocha, Ambato, Pillaro and Tisaleo cantons. Around 100 owners were surveyed for the tenure study whose data were tabulated using an analysis of variance. In addition, the phaneroptical and morphological characteristics were studied through 17 body measurements with the use of the tape measure, the zoomometric staff and the drill compass considering age and sex. For the study of the hematological and biochemical profile, 60 animals were used, whose blood analyzes were processed by the automated quantification method of neubauer and for the biochemical profile the calorimetric and enzymatic method, being evaluated in the hematological profile: Hematocrit, VGM, Platelets, etc. For the biochemical profile: Glucose, Urea, ALT, etc. It appreciated that the creole donkeys are rustic animals, of docile temperament, excellent for working of loading and transport. In addition they are fed by grazing. In recent years the number of donkeys has decreased due to the lack of veterinary assistance and interest on the part of the institutions for their conservation. In the morphological characterization, a moderate sexual dimorphism was observed in favor of the males, which were significantly higher (P<0.001). The Ecuadorian Creole donkey is characterized by being dolichocephalic and longilinear, thus providing a good aptitude for working. The results of blood count and blood chemistry values are in the normal parameters such as: Hematocrit (39.51%), Hemoglobin (12.62 g/dL), VGM (60.47 fL). It was determined that there is statistical difference within the groups evaluated only in the variable AST |
