| Tóm tắt: | The study evaluated the effect of ozone on adult control of Pagiocerus frontalis (F.) weevil in stored corn. In order to minimize economic losses caused by this pest, farmers resort to the use of insecticides based on Aluminum Phosphide which leaves phosphine residues that affect human and animal health. Due to this, the objective of the investigation was to evaluate the mortality of Pagiocerus frontalis (F.) and the percentage of germination of corn seeds, exposed to different times in ozone. The work was carried out in the "Andean Grains" laboratory of the Technical University of Cotopaxi. A (DBCA) with factorial arrangement AxB+C was applied for three repetitions where factor (A) represented the pest development condition (300 g of corn and without corn), factor (B) comprised three exposure times to ozone plus a relative control (Aluminum Phosphide) and an absolute control. 30 adults of the weevil were incorporated in all treatments and ozone was applied at a concentration of 0.12 mg/L for 20, 30 and 40 minutes. The variables studied were the mortality of the weevil after 48 hours and germination of the corn after 7 days of finishing the treatments. These variables were analyzed in the InfoStat program, after obtaining statistically significant results in the ADEVA. The Tukey test was applied to the 5 % for the comparison of ranges. In factor (A), the mortality rates (100 %) were for those weevils (without corn) and for those which had 300 g of corn (51.1 %). In factor (B) was the highest mortality (92.2 %) at 40 minutes and the lowest at 20 minutes (55.5 %). The AxB interaction presented (100 %) mortality for insects without corn T4 (20 min), T5 (30 min) and T6 (40 min) compared to those found in T3 corn (40 min). It obtained the highest number of dead insects (84 %). Ozone did not cause effects on the germination percentage of corn seeds, T3 (40 minutes) achieved greater germination (93.3 %). Ozone showed an insecticidal effect against adults of Pagiocerus frontalis (F.). Therefore, it can be used in the management of this pest in stored corn kernels and does not affect the germination of this seed. |
