Description
Summary:The raising of guinea pig is very common among the families of the rural communities of the mountain range of Ecuador, its consumption is popular, being its meat appreciated in every corner as a typical and traditional dish, which ensures a constant demand in the market, guinea pig meat is lean with high protein content, low in cholesterol and sodium, being highly valued nutritionally. The raising of guinea pig is managed without technification in most of the families of communities in rural areas of Ecuador, in addition the investigations in our country to improve exploitation in guinea pigs are very little transmitted to the rural area, where the largest population of guinea pigs are demanded. Therefore, this project aims to implement guinea pig management techniques for the producers of the Canton of Latacunga, Pastocalle, Mulaló, Canchagua parishes, of the Province of Cotopaxi. For this, the management of the guinea pigs should be known by making visits to the productions, to determine and know the problems present for the majority of the producers in these areas, finding that most of the producers lacked to improve in the management of guinea pigs , but there were a few improvements to what ware expected. The variables that were evaluated before, during and after the project were the daily weight gain. With this variable, it was found that producers who had good infrastructure use basic biosafety standards, use guinea pigs from the Inti and Peru breeds, use records, periodic cleaning of the shed, a good weaning, perform a empadre through measurable characteristics, allocate land for their producers use vaccines and their guinea pigs have not had diseases, their guinea pigs get more weight gain. Subsequently, the implementation of production management techniques was carried out, finding that due to the idiosyncrasies of the people, the expected results could not be obtained, finding that there were no significant differences. The nuclei of genetic improvement were made, using mass selection with Rstudio but for this it is important that the producers continue with the use of records.
