סיכום: | The study of the medicinal plants used by the inhabitants in the Toacazo community of San Ignacio, Province of Cotopaxi, Ecuador was carried out. A semi-structured interview was applied, in the ages between 20 and 75 years. The plants were collected and herborized to be determined botanically. It was documented the medicinal use that is given to them, according to the benefits that plants have for medicinal use. In order to determine the degree of knowledge shared by users, quantitative methods were applied. 45 species were identified, grouped into 24 families. The most representative botanical family through the interviews carried out were the Lamiaceae with seven genres and the Asteraceae, Solanaceae with 6 genres. The 43 informants indicated a total of 11 uses (blood circulation, flu, headache, fright, urinary infection, bumps, fever, stress, cough, malaire, stomach pain) for all plants. All reported species are native. More than 50% of respondents reported seven plants as the most useful (popular), which are the white chilca, borage, oregano, mint, santa maria, rue and chamomile to treat ailments. The vegetable species with the highest number of users for a particular disease was "La manzanilla" (Matricaria chamomilla L).
