Shrnutí:The primary objective of this project was to evaluate the “vetiver” (Vetiveria zizanioides) absorption capacity in heavy metals like cadmium and lead in the water of agricultural irrigation waterway Latacunga-Salcedo-Ambato in the Samanga sector. In this searching, it studied the behavior of Vetiver hydroponic planting, in tanks of 100 liters with four treatments. On the one hand, two plant densities 50 and 100 plants per tank were evaluated, and these were grown in containers with potable water (control) and with water from the irrigation waterway. Each treatment was done in triplicate. The growth plant was evaluated in the four treatments, and the accumulation of messed metals (Pb and Cd) in the root and shoot was quantified. The vetiver species has a high tolerance index to the presence of metals in the water. It is observed that the growth differences, mainly in the root, are due to the density of plants per tank, not to the type of water it contains. Regarding the absorption of metals, the data obtained show that after nine months of growth, the plant growing in waterway accumulates more of both metals than the plant growing in drinking water, both in the aerial part and in the root, the percentage of slightly greater accumulation in the root. The results showed that the vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides) improve the quality of water in Agricultural irrigation waterway Latacunga-Salcedo-Ambato, to help to purify water in the agricultural production and the sector cattle also avoid the farming contaminated and diseases in animals of this area.
