| Summary: | The agronomy career of the Agricultural Sciences and Natural Sciences Faculty of the Technical University of Cotopaxi, has designed an urban agricultural production project to encourage people to grow their own food, for which, is being taken into account the responsible management in the creation of urban gardens in a sustainable way with the responsible management of natural resources based on the agronomic characteristics of tuber vegetables. The present case study was carried out with the purpose of determining the unproductive area for the establishment of urban horticultural gardens in the Machachi neighborhood of Mejía Canton, Province of Pichincha. Through bibliographic research, information was collected about how to create different types of urban gardens and what are the benefits of having one at home or in the neighborhood. In addition, information on organic fertilizers was collected as a suggestion of application: worm humus, guinea pig manure, biol, it was investigated about their uses, benefits and advantages of organic insecticides and fungicides, association of crops, vegetable crops rotation. A survey of the area under study was carried out using the geographic information system with the Google Earth program and the ArcGIS software to know the unproductive area of the Machachi neighborhood (25.7ha or 257000m2), for the implementation of urban gardens. A prototype of a personal urban garden of 10 m2 was created, the calculation was made for plant density (12 plants / m2) and the appropriate doses of organic fertilizers (worm humus kg / m2; guinea pig manure kg / m2 and biol 5lt / fumigate pump) and additionally the creation of a 4 m2 compost bin; development of organic fungicides and insecticides for the control of pests and diseases in the garden and additional proposal of live fences with beneficial plants for the garden. By means of a budget table will show, the cost that will be used in the future when implementing the prototype or pre-designed orchard. |
