Özet:The non-use and lack of information on molecular techniques made by veterinarians have impeded the innovation and updating of viral diagnosis in veterinary medicine. This research study aimed to determine through surveys the knowledge, attitudes and practices of veterinarians about molecular diagnosis in viruses for small species in the city of Quito, in order to identify strategies to promote the use of the molecular laboratory. A survey with 27 questions was made and carried out online and in person by the google forms platform to veterinarians in the city of Quito. A total of 134 surveys were conducted that met the criteria for the study. Slightly more than half of the respondents have a postgraduate degree; there were no significant differences between the year of graduation and the age of the respondents. Approximately 50% of the participants do not have a good knowledge of molecular techniques concepts, possibly due to the lack of subject matters in universities and courses on molecular techniques. It was evidenced that less than 30% have worked with nucleic acid techniques and that there are mixed behaviors on the price of molecular assays; possibly this is due to the few molecular labs in the city that the veterinarian can work with. On the other hand, more than 98% have worked with other types of conventional diagnoses, specifically rapid kits, this being a trend test in the diagnosis of diseases. It is positively evident that 98% of the respondents would like to improve their knowledge with a theoretical- practical course.
